Eastern white pine tree needles (Pinus Strobus) contain many beneficial constituents useful for the prevention of colds and flu such as Alpha-Pinene, Beta-Pinene, Beta-Phellandrene, D-Limonene, Germacrene D, 3-Carene, Caryophyllene, vitamin A, and vitamin C, shikimic acid, and suramin. Suramin has also been shown to be an inhibitor against a wide variety of other viruses, including Zika and Chikungunya viruses. Research has also shown that suramin can prevent viral attachment, entry, and release from host cells by its interactions with viral capsid proteins. Recent research has shown it to be an in vitro inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 infection in cell culture by preventing viral entry. The current study shows this to be due to its potent inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), an essential viral lifecycle enzyme. Suramin is 20 or more times as powerful as remdesivir, which is the only currently approved anti-COVID-19 drug. Clinical studies have also shown that surami...

Description

A powerful North American botanical traditionally valued for seasonal wellness, respiratory support, antioxidant protection, and natural antimicrobial activity.

Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) is one of North America's most distinctive medicinal evergreens. Its fresh green needles contain an impressive spectrum of naturally occurring phytochemicals, including shikimic acid, vitamin C, vitamin A, α-pinene, β-pinene, β-phellandrene, D-limonene, 3-carene, germacrene D, and caryophyllene.

Together, these compounds give White Pine its remarkable botanical profile and its characteristic fresh, resinous aroma.

Naturally Rich in Shikimic Acid

One of the most fascinating constituents found in conifer needles is shikimic acid, a naturally occurring plant metabolite that has been extensively studied for its biological activity and pharmaceutical importance. Shikimic acid has been identified in multiple conifer species and is of particular interest because of its role as a biochemical precursor used in the manufacture of certain antiviral medications.

Shikimic acid itself has also been investigated for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and other biological activities in laboratory and preclinical research.

Antioxidant Protection

White Pine needles are naturally rich in antioxidant compounds that help defend plant tissues against oxidative stress. Research examining pine needle extracts and essential oils across numerous Pinus species has demonstrated significant antioxidant potential, supporting their use as a source of naturally occurring protective phytochemicals.

These antioxidant constituents make White Pine a particularly interesting botanical for formulations intended to support the body's natural defenses against environmental and oxidative stress.

Natural Antimicrobial Activity

The aromatic compounds concentrated in pine needles contribute to the tree's natural defense system. Research involving Pinus strobus needle essential oil has demonstrated biological activity against fungal organisms, while broader research on pine essential oils has documented antibacterial and antifungal activity.

α-Pinene, β-pinene, limonene, germacrene D, and related terpenes are among the compounds that contribute to the complex antimicrobial character of pine preparations.

Respiratory & Seasonal Wellness

White Pine has a long history of traditional use as a respiratory and seasonal wellness botanical. Its aromatic constituents provide the unmistakably fresh, penetrating character associated with pine, while its broader phytochemical profile makes it an especially interesting herb for seasonal herbal preparations.

Traditionally, pine needles have been used in teas and other botanical preparations during the colder months, particularly for their invigorating aromatic qualities and nutritional content.

A Remarkable Botanical Profile

Eastern White Pine is much more than an aromatic evergreen. Its needles contain a complex combination of:

  • Shikimic acid — a fascinating plant metabolite with extensive biochemical research

  • α-Pinene & β-Pinene — aromatic monoterpenes associated with pine's characteristic scent and biological activity

  • D-Limonene — a naturally occurring citrus-resinous monoterpene

  • β-Phellandrene & 3-Carene — aromatic monoterpenes contributing to pine's distinctive chemistry

  • Germacrene D & Caryophyllene — naturally occurring sesquiterpenes

  • Vitamin C and other antioxidant constituents

  • Naturally occurring phenolic and phytochemical compounds

The precise chemical profile of pine needles can vary according to growing conditions, geographic origin, harvest season, and extraction method, making each botanical extract a unique expression of the plant.

The Essence of the Evergreen

White Pine represents the extraordinary chemistry of the forest in concentrated botanical form—aromatic, antioxidant, protective, and naturally rich in compounds that have attracted significant scientific and traditional interest.

Our Eastern White Pine Needle Extract captures this remarkable botanical profile for use in herbal formulations centered around seasonal wellness, respiratory support, antioxidant protection, and the traditional restorative qualities of the evergreen.

Got this during My nasty time with Covid. Decided i Would give it a try. Fast forward 1 month in a half later, my hubby has a cold and i have been taking this, and thank goodness its passed me by. I do have a little stuffiness, but i also Didn't take for a couple of days. Now back on it and i Feel better. I will be honest, make sure you take with juice. It Doesn't taste the best. But With the juice you dont even know its there. And i would much rather the benefit than not having this Little gem.
